The Law of Sowing & Reaping

Main Text - 2 Corinthians 9:6-11 - But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. 9 As it is written: “ He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever.”10 Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness, 11 while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, which causes thanksgiving through us to God.

Sowing and Reaping is a Law and a principle that God set forth in motion. Because it is a Law, it cannot be altered or avoided. Meaning whatsoever you Sow, You are going to Reap the benefits or results of the seed you have sown
As Believers in Jesus Christ we are to live every aspect of our lives in accordance with His word and His Laws and commandments .

The above passage tells us that we are to give as we purpose in our hearts. Not grudgingly but with a cheerful heart, this means we must purpose in our hearts to give to God our Time, Devotion, Will, Praise and Finances. We must give to God not out of obligation but out of adoration. Because we love Him and we want to give!
When we Give to God of our Finances, we are saying to Him that we trust Him completely. Not just with our salvation, healing and Spiritual well-being, but with our money,

(2 Timothy 6:10) says For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness.

Matthew 6:21 says where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. you cannot serve God and serve money too. You will end up choosing one over the other and unless one submits to God in all areas of their life, they will more times than not end up choosing money.

Listen to what God says in Malachi 3:8-11 -Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed me, But you say, ‘ In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. 9 You are cursed with a curse, For you have robbed Me, Even this whole nation. 10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the LORD of hosts,
“ If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it. 11 “ And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes,

This is the only scripture in the entire Bible that God tells us to test Him or “Try” Him. You cant out give God. The more you give. The more He will give back to you. The truth is if we don’t trust Him with our finances .. Chances are we don’t trust Him with many other areas of our lives.
We must have faith that God is able and willing to bless us and meet our needs.

Ephesians 3:20 says - Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all we could ever ask or think, according to the power that works in us.

The power that works in us is Christ the hope of glory!
When we give we sow, when we sow we shall reap if we do not lose heart, meaning if we don’t lose faith that God is able to bring to pass that which we have sown for.
There is a law called “Seed-Time-Harvest. This is exemplified through the birthing process that gave us life.
We were conceived in our mothers womb “seed”. we were nurtured in the womb for 9 months “time”. and finally we were born into this world “Harvest”.
The same is true for anything in our lives that we sow …. We sow, the seed grows with time, then comes forth the harvest.

Look at Luke 6:38 - Give and it will be given to you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over will be put into your bosom. With the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.

Luke 21:1-4 gives us an account of a poor widow that gave all she had “And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, 2 and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. 3 So He said, “Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; 4 for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.”

Haggai 1:6 says - You have sown much, and bring in little; You eat, but do not have enough; You drink, but you are not filled with drink; You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; And he who earns wages, Earns wages to put into a bag with holes.”

In other words they had sown much and reaped from it, but yet they would only give a small portion of what they had received leaving Gods House (the Church) in ruins while they lived in nice big fancy houses. He equated it to putting their money in bags with holes …. Only when we give to God can we have security with our finances!

When we truly get a revelation of what it means to sow in Gods kingdom, we become free from the bondages and worries of the daily stresses that ensnare so many people. When you are a Giver then you understand that God is really the one that is in control of your finances, not wall street, not the government, not your bank. But God Almighty!

Lets look at a passage of scripture that Paul penned in Philippians 4:15-19 - Now you Philippians know also that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church shared with me concerning giving and receiving but you only. 16 For even in Thessalonica you sent aid once and again for my necessities. 17 Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that abounds to your account. a sweet-smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well pleasing to God. 19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Paul said that he didn’t so much seek the gift as he did rejoicing over the fruit that would be given back to them as a result of their giving. Notice also that he referred to their gift as a “sweet smelling aroma”. an acceptable sacrifice well pleasing to God. God Loves a cheerful giver. He gave His only son for us. And He did it cheerfully!!!!

Matthew 25 Jesus gives a parable about a man traveling to a far country, he entrusts his servants with his talents of money. To one he gave 5 talents, to another 2 talents, and to another he gave 1 talent. Each to his own ability. While he was gone the men with the 5 and 2 talents increased them double fold, the man with one talent dug a hole and buried his. When the master returned he saw that 2 of the men had increased what they had been given and he said “well done good and faithful servants” to the man who had buried his and gave him back only the one talent, the master said “you wicked and lazy servant” and he took the talent from the man and gave it to the man who had 10 talents and said this “for to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance. But from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away

When we hold on to the blessings God has given us, instead of blessing others. We cut off the further blessings from God. He wants us to be givers so that he can give us more. The more we give, the more he entrusts us with.

The bible records in Genesis chapter 26 that Isaac sowed in the land and reaped in that same year a hundred-fold. And the Lord blessed him. He walked in the Abrahamic blessing in which we also can walk in, this includes not only blessings in finances but blessings in all areas of our lives including Spiritually.

Galatians 6:7-9 - Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

If we sow to our flesh we will reap of our flesh the corruption and defilement that comes from the flesh
Proverbs 22:8 says - He who sows iniquity will reap sorrow

Hebrews 11:25 says that there is pleasure in sin but only for a season, if we sow to the flesh we may have a temporary pleasure but it will bring eternal consequences

Sow a thought, Reap an action
Sow an action, Reap a habit
Sow a Habit, Reap a lifestyle

The wages of sin is death, and if we sow to the flesh and sin, the results are we will reap death in the flesh. But if we sow to the Spirit, we will reap an everlasting reward.

We will lay up for ourselves treasures in heaven that neither moths nor rust can destroy (Matthew 6:20)

Matthew 6:21 says for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also

Sowing and reaping is actually a matter of the heart. As Born again Believers When we give, we give from the heart, when we sow things unto the Spirit, we sow from the heart. God is faithful and just to reward us in our giving of our money, time, Prayer, praise, studying the Word of God, and anything else we do unto Him by faith.

When we sow hate, we will in return reap hatred.
When we sow love, we will in return reap love
When we sow kind words, we will in return reap kind words
When we sow discord, we will in return reap discord
When we sow a curse, we will in return reap a curse.
When we sow blessings, we will in return reap blessings. Etc ……

Remember the words of Jesus in Matthew 7:12 Therefore whatever you want men to do unto you, do also to them, for this is the law and the prophets

In conclusion Jesus also said in John 12:24 Most assuredly I say unto you unless a seed falls into the ground and dies it remains alone, but if it dies, it produces much fruit,

When we Sow we release a seed from our hands, spiritually it dies when it leaves our hands and produces a harvest of thirty, sixty and a hundred-fold .

The Law of Sowing and Reaping (Seed-Time-Harvest) was at work in the death, burial and Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ

Seed was sown - Christ was crucified and died for our sins
Time cultivated the seed - 3 days in the grave, preached to the captives
Harvest was reaped - Jesus was resurrected bringing many sons to the Father
