The Great Commission, what gives you the right?

I see here on the Cyber mega information highway that some Christians use this as a means to convey their faith to others. I see some examples of sharing that are little more than scare tactics, extreme teaching about the end days that are upon us, and other types of things that make us for the most part look like fools. The typical unbeliever doesn't need to look vary far to find his personal ammunition to keep what he believes to be us representing our savior at arms length or farther. What gives us the right to witness the Gospel to the lost is building a relationship with them.  When a missionary enters the field he doesn't go in spouting platitudes , he gets to know the person or people builds a relationship of trust that leads them to care for that person and in turn that person will give you the benefit of listening. Christ genuinely loved and cared for those he ministered to in the Gospels we read, he was able to speak boldly about the coming kingdom because he gained their trust through his acts of love and mercy. Not by sitting on a hill spouting doom and gloom to the masses like I find on the internet. Get off your computer ( I know that some of you feel that this is your ministry, but it should only be an extension of it, Not all of it ) Go to the Jail, Go to the soup kitchen, Go to the convalescent centers and hospitals, Go to the Red Light districts, Build relationships by being a friend and servant to them. Then you will see the Gospel spread because they saw Christ in you. ( Please re read  Mathew 25)

Bro Mike just dropped by and saw this Blog post, Thank you for sharing. You have conveyed my sentiments of "The (Oh so Holy) that are so Heavenly that they are no earthly good!"  You have captured this so much better. Thank you! WE have to build relationships in order to gain trust. With trust one is more susceptible to listen to what is being said. And then we have to deliver this with Love, kindness and respect not fear. The conviction comes from the Lord and not for us to use scare tactics.

Why I am a Christian?  It is so easy to take for granted our identities as Christians, especially if we grew up in the church. We become accustomed to our own buildings, our own symbols, our songs, even some of the words of Scripture that become familiar to us. I think that many of us, though, hold on to a few things that remind us each time we encounter them of who we truly are as followers of Christ. For me--and thank you for the reminder--one of those particular things is the Beatitudes of Jesus in His Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5 and Luke 6.

Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you will be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.

Those words are a vivid reminder of why the Christian journey is so important to me. The words of Christ are so counter-intuitive, so prophetic, and so profoundly different from our material world, which can be at times so hopeless. Christ’s promise is to those who have so little but who need so much, and our call as disciples is simply to believe in those promises, and to let our lives be shaped by that belief. Each time I read these words, I am reminded of who I am as a Christian.

I hear those words of hope – Blessed are you who weep, for you will laugh, spoken to those in midst of terrible pain and grief, and I hear a promise of comfort and recovery. In those words, in those audacious promises Jesus makes to the marginalized, we are all made witness to hope. Blessed are you who weep, for God is with you in your tears, and God will not let you suffer alone. That is the enduring message of Jesus Christ, and it is a message that I believe with all my heart.

Blessed are the people of hope, who weep now, who hunger now, who are lonely now.  For they will laugh; they will be filled. They will heal, and neither the living nor the dead will be forgotten.

Christianity is relational at its core, as summed up by the greatest commandment: It is about us knowing and having a relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and acting with love, charity and mercy toward each other.

Our call is to share the hope of the Gospel far and wide.  It is up to us to share with them the hope to which God has called us all.

“Every generous act of giving with every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights” (James 1:17). The perfect source of truth, love, service, blessing and grace comes from our Lord. We are to be the channels for these gifts to the world.

Let’s dedicate ourselves to doing more to help those who are hurting, those who are without hope, those who are unloved, and those who are living on the margins.

As the Psalmist cries out, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.”
