Receiving the Promises of God

2 Peter 1:2-4 - Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

God has given us great promises, many great promises. Some unconditional: meaning that they will come to pass regardless of what we do or say, others conditional: meaning that we have to act in faith and obedience to bring the promise into effect in our lives. ..

2 Corinthians 1:20 - For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us...

All of the Promises that God promised us are “Yes” and “Amen” on His part, they are done, they are established, they are readily available to us. But we must lay hold of the promises and activate them!..

Better Promises, Better Covenant …………..

Christ Jesus came and fulfilled the law, He fulfilled the Covenant He made with Abraham, Moses and David! He also established a better Covenant, with better promises. A covenant made with His blood with promises based on his work at Calvary!..

Hebrews 8:6 - But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises...

Hold fast in Faith ………....

Hebrews 10:23 - Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful..

We are to hope in Faith for the promises of God to come to fruition in our lives, we are to believe Him, believe His word, believe His promises!..

God is faithful, He upholds His promises by His name ……....

Hebrews 6:13 - For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself,..

The Promise to Abraham …………..

Genesis 17:1-5 - When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless. And I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly.” Then Abram fell on his face, and God talked with him, saying: “As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations. No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations..

Romans 4:20-22 - He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. And therefore “it was accounted to him for righteousness..

Hebrews 11:11 -By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised...

The Promise to Israel …………...

Exodus 6:6-8 - Therefore say to the children of Israel: ‘I am the LORD; I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, I will rescue you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments. I will take you as My people, and I will be your God. Then you shall know that I am the LORD your God who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. And I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and I will give it to you as a heritage: I am the LORD..

Joshua 21:43-45 - So the LORD gave to Israel all the land of which He had sworn to give to their fathers, and they took possession of it and dwelt in it. The LORD gave them rest all around, according to all that He had sworn to their fathers. And not a man of all their enemies stood against them; the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand. Not a word failed of any good thing which the LORD had spoken to the house of Israel. All came to pass.

1 Kings 8:56 - Blessed be the LORD, who has given rest to His people Israel, according to all that He promised. There has not failed one word of all His good promise, which He promised through His servant Moses..

The Promise to Mary ………………..

Luke 1:30-35 - Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God..

As a Christian (Child of God) we have found favor with God. Meaning that He has chosen to place within us visions, dreams and promises that He wants to birth in us to fulfill His purpose in our lives and bring Him glory. The power of the Holy Spirit will overshadow us and place within us a promise that only we can bring to pass for the kingdom of God. That promise coming to pass depends on our response and reception to the promise given..

With God all things are possible ……..

Notice Mary’s response to Lord in verse 38 “Let it be to me according to your word” The promises of God to us are based on His word, not ours. If He said it, He will do it. If He said it, it will come to pass, but we must believe Him, we must believe His word!.

We also must associate ourselves and get connected with others that believe the promises of God and have a promise conceived within them. In Luke 1:41 it says that when Elizabeth who was also pregnant with a promise of God (John the Baptist) heard the voice of Mary entering the house that the babe leaped within her and she was also filled with the Holy Spirit … The Spirit bore witness to the promises of God that they were both carrying. In verse 45 she responds “Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord”.

The fulfillment of the promises of God are based on our belief that He will bring them to pass as He said He would. He is faithful to perform His promises in our lives if we believe that he is able and if we receive them by faith!.

Hebrews 11:6 - “For Without faith it is impossible to please God, for we must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him”.

The Promises to Believers ……………...

Romans 10:9 - if we confess and believe in Christ Jesus, we shall be saved.

1 John 2:25 - if we abide in the Son and the Father, we have eternal life..

2 Corinthians 5:17 - If we are in Christ we are a new creation, all things are new..

John 7:37,38 - If come to Him and drink, out of us shall flow rivers of living water..

Ephesians 1:13 - If we trust and believe, we are sealed with the Holy Spirit..

Luke 24:49 - If we yield to Him, we will be endued with power from on high..

John 14:27 - If we let not our heart be troubled, we will Have the peace of God..

2 Chronicles 7:14 - If we are humble and seek Him, He will send revival to our land..

Psalm 91 - If we abide under the shadow of Almighty, He will protect us..

Malachi 3 - If we bring Him all the tithe, He will open heaven and bless us..

Luke 6:38 - If we give, it shall be given back to us with good measure..

Matthew 6:14 - If we forgive others, God will forgive us..

Matthew 6:33 - If we seek first the Kingdom of God, All these things will be added..

Ephesians 1:7 - If we are in Him, we have redemption and forgiveness of sins..

Psalm 16:11 - If we remain in His presence, there is fullness of joy..

Matt 4:19 - If we follow Him, He will make us fishers of men..

Hebrews 13:5 - He will never leave us nor forsake us..

There are hundreds of Scriptures in the word of God that contain promises that God has given to His believers, He only asks that we believe Him, obey Him, trust him, have faith in Him, serve Him, live for Him & love Him. If we do these things, He will bring to pass all of the promises in our lives!.

2 Peter 3:9 - The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
