Be Fruitful and Multiply

Genesis 1:22 - And God blessed them saying, “Be fruitful and multiply”.

From the beginning of creation, Gods plan for Man was to Be Fruitful and multiply. To bring increase in all the He does. Today, the mandate is the same for Man as it was over 6,000 years ago.

The Mandate ……………..

Adam & Eve - Genesis 1:27,28 … So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth

Noah - Genesis 9:1, … So God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth Vs.7 … And as for you, be fruitful and multiply; Bring forth abundantly in the earth And multiply in it.”

Jacob - Genesis 35:10-12 … And God said to him, “Your name is Jacob; your name shall not be called Jacob anymore, but Israel shall be your name.” So He called his name Israel. 11 Also God said to him: “I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall proceed from you, and kings shall come from your body. 12 The land which I gave Abraham and Isaac I give to you; and to your descendants after you I give this land

Bearing Fruit ………….

Leviticus 26:9 - For I will look on you favorably and make you fruitful, multiply you and confirm My covenant with you.

God Has a covenant with Man, that if Man would Obey His commands and seek His will, He will bring forth increase and multiply blessings in our lives.

Matt 3:8 tells us that we should bear fruits worthy of repentance, the fruit we bear should be Godly fruit that brings glory to God.

Colossians 1:10 - that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;

A tree is known by Its fruit ……………

The truth is, you are either bringing forth good fruit (Godly fruit), or you are bearing bad fruit (fruits of the flesh). If you are born again and the Spirit of God dwells within you, … You will bear good fruit.

Matt 7:16-20 - You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them

We are known by our fruits … not by what we say, sadly many Christians speak the complete opposite of their actions … they profess Christ but deny Him with their actions (they have a form of godliness but deny its power - 2Timothy 3:5)

Matt 3:10 - And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

The Barren Tree ………….

Luke 13:6-9 He also spoke this parable: “A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. Then he said to the keeper of his vineyard, ‘Look, for three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree and find none. Cut it down; why does it use up the ground?’ But he answered and said to him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and fertilize it. And if it bears fruit, well. But if not, after that you can cut it down.’”

When we become barren in our lives, we become unfruitful, just existing, taking up space but not occupying ground for Gods kingdom.

God will not leave us unfruitful, He will prune us and dig around the roots of our being, fertilizing us with the Word of God and watering us with showers of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes the process of breaking up fallow ground can be painful, but the end results will bring forth much fruit for the glory of God.

Abide In Christ ………………

Jesus Christ is the Vine, we are the branches pruned by the Heavenly Father and watered by the Holy Spirit. We draw our life from Him and bear fruit as a result of the nutrients that comes from the vine.

John 15:2 - Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.

To abide in Christ is to be completely dependant on Him for Spiritual Growth and maturity, apart from Him we can bear no fruit. Without Him we are barren and unfruitful.

John 15;8 - By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.

John 15:16 - You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.

Every member of the body of Christ has a mandate to be fruitful and multiply, to increase in every area of our lives to the glory of God.

The Fruit of the Spirit …………………

As a result of the Indwelling of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer, Godly fruits (Attributes) will spring forth from a well of life, Rivers of living water. These are known as the fruits of the Spirit.

Galatians 5:22,23 - But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

The Fruit of the Spirit can only be manifested in the life of a person that has completely surrendered their life to God, allowing the characteristics of the Holy Spirit to be evident in their life.

2 Peter 1:5-8 says Giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Bringing forth Increase …………………..

Mark Chapter 4 gives us 4 different scenarios of the seed (the Word of God) being planted or dispersed … 3 produced absolutely nothing, only 1 brought forth fruit and multiplied 30, 60 & 100 fold.

3 things that will keep us unfruitful ………

1) The Enemy - (the wayside) - When they hear the word, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts

2) Trials and persecutions - (Stony Ground) - when they hear the word, immediately receive it with gladness; and they have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word’s sake, immediately they stumble

3) Cares of the world - (Thorns) - These are the ones who hear the word, and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful

Only 1 thing will bring forth fruit and increase ……….

4) The Implanted Word - (Good Ground) - But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.”
There are Several reasons why God wants us to be fruitful and multiply …….

The First reason is obviously so that we become more like Him, less of us, more of Him (I must decrease, He must increase - John 3:30) so that we become transformed daily in to the Image of His dear Son Christ Jesus

The Second is so that the world will see Him through us and In us, (Christ in us the Hope of Glory - Colossians 1:27) so that a lost and dying world will see a loving savior that came to dwell in man and redeem him from the curse of the law and give him Eternal Life.

And the Third is to restore Dominion and Authority back into the hands of righteous men and women, to have Dominion in the earth and over the works and powers of the devil. (Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God - 2 Corinthians 10:5) to bring forth fruit in the earth of a Holy God, to multiply and establish greater works in the earth from the Kingdom of God.

Fruitful Blessings ……………..

As Christians we are all called to bear fruit for the Kingdom of God, To be Fruitful in every area of our lives …. In our relationships, in our finances, in our families, in our jobs/careers, in our talents, in our churches etc ………

To be Fruitful means to be Blessed, Blessings come from the Father above through His Holy Spirit and His Word. We are to walk in the continual blessings of God. We are to “Be Fruitful and Multiply”.

Psalm 1:1-3 - Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.
