Some may be offended at what I have to say here, but I know for a fact that there is only ONE GOD and all others are IDOLS.

Most of you are familiar with the popular television show "American Idol". Initially, I was appalled that someone (especially a christian), would even desire that title. I am a singer and I am all too familiar with the draw of competition among those in the musical field. However, I, along with so many others, were fascinated at the multi-talented contestants and could only imagine what it would be like for others to admire your talent so much.

But, there is a problem...a big problem. When your desire or lust is full grown, it becomes sin. ANYTHING that you place above God, put in His place or give all your time, talent or money to, is the idol you worship.

I have come to a place that I am disgusted with anything so bold as to call itself IDOL. By the title alone, it is an antichrist institution. The Bible clearly states that "Thou shalt have no other gods before me". In Bible times, God's people showed their hatred of anything antichrist. It was burned, broken, crushed and consumed by fire, and God's wrath was appeased.

Where is the boldness of God's chosen people? How is it that so many of us ae so easily swayed into desiring to watch an idol perform, be an idol and celebrate idolatry. God forbid that our lusts are drawing us away from our beloved Savior!

"Confounded be all they that serve graven images, that boast themselves of idols: worship Him, all ye gods." Psalms 98:7

"For thou Lord, art high above all the earth: thou art exalted far above all gods. Ye that love the Lord, hate evil..." Psalms 98:8-9a

(Anita) As christians, we just need to be aware of what we support or give our attention to. I'm glad that at least people are trying to represent Christ on the show, but it would be cool if they won and rejected the title of "Idol"! Now that would be impactful!

I would have to agree Rachelle. Those people who make it on American Idol, have a God given ability. Maybe the name isn't so good, but the people on the show are just trying to find their place. I don't put them down for that. (please, please, please don't think I am saying anyone is)

An idol, I believe, is anything or person you place above God. Many people are idolized, especially celebrities, in our culture. In the old testament of the Bible, the Lord did not even want his people to have a King, but they begged for one and God gave them what they wanted: to be like everyone else in the world. God is a jealous God and wants all of us, even our desires to be just for Him.

I'm only stating my convictions here. It's God's job to judge motives and sin.
