Abstaining from sex and waiting on God

First let me say that as I get older sex isn't the same force to me as it was when I was in my teens and twenties. It used to be that my thoughts were pretty centered around that one activity. I used to tell myself that I didn't want to go any farther than first base, but let's face it that's not reality. Sexually speaking the male body is like an automatic transmission. Once you star the engine and put it into drive everything else just happens, so if you don't want to go anywhere your best bet is not to turn on the engine.

The Apostle Paul gives us some very good advice in Php 4:8 Finally, my brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are right, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, think on these things.

The natural man doesn't want to do this but as you force yourself it will become easier. It's been proven that you have to repeat an action around 50 times before it becomes habit, so combating the natural desires requires work.

Waiting on God sounds a whole lot easier than it actually is. I don't know about you but I like to work toward achieving a goal. If you're really going to wait on God you have to just sit back and take your hands of the reigns. We may think we know what's best for us and the fastest way to get there, but there is good, better, and the best. If we choose a good goal and pursue it our way we might find it or we might not, but we will never be as satisfied as......... If we choose God's will and follow His Way He will provide that which is better which ultimately is the best.

I'm still in a holding pattern waiting on God and as I do I have the option to accept what is good and might satisfy for the moment but is not God's best, or I can hold out for what God has planned for me and will enable me to truly worship Him.
