In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith, of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire, may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 1 Peter 1:6-7

One of the most important focuses we need to have in the fight to live by faith is that God will be testing our faith, almost on a daily basis. Satan takes the same tests in our circumstances and tries to use them as temptations, hoping he can cause us to fail.

God uses these difficult circumstances to prove to our own hearts that we belong to Him. Our Father is not setting up “testing situations” to make our lives difficult, but to prove that our hearts are His. God’s testing is always motivated by His great love for His children; never to steal our joy, but to increase our joy.

Just ask Abraham if the great test of his faith brought him closer to the Lord God Almighty or pushed him away causing him to think about betraying the One he followed.

So let’s remember that, . . . without faith it is impossible to please God, . . . Hebrews 11:6. The muscles of faith will only grow as the weight of testing continues to increase. But also remember, when we pass the test, we have just entered into a new facet of our Beloved Savior’s love for us.

Remember that only in the “fire” do we see the impurities that need to be stripped away from the pure gold of God’s indwelling presence.

Father, help me to see the reflection of Your face where the fire has purified the silver. When I find my heart “rejoicing” in Jesus alone, then I know that for today I have passed the test . . . the test of desiring to reflect Your glory only.
