- My Testimony
- I was born on July 27,1955. It was a normal birth with no complications but comparatively soon afterwords I encountered the first obstacle to my life. At approximately 18 months I contracted pneumonia which in 1956 was pretty life threatening. Nevertheless God pulled me through for the first time.
I don't remember a lot of my early life. I had the usual childhood diseases and my tonsils were removed at age 8. A tonsillectomy isn't a very serious operation but you are anesthetized and from what I understand whenever one is anesthetized they are put in a rather tenuous position between life and death. Regardless God pulled me through once again.
Then my Dad, since he was in the Air Force, got orders to go to the Philippine Islands. We were stationed at Clark Air Force base which is where my story really begins.
One day, during Christmas break 1966, a friend and I went to the base hobby shop. He wanted me to go to a ball game with him but I knew I'd better call home first and get permission. For some reason I had to cross the street to get to a phone but I couldn't take the 2 minutes it would have taken me to go to the corner and cross with the lights. I had to cross in the middle of the street. Unfortunately when I got out into the center of the street I somehow tripped and fell. While I was getting up a car hit me. If there hadn't been a dentist there on the spot I would have suffocated since I swallowed my tongue. I was pretty lucky wasn't I? Nonsense, God put that dentist there, so once again God saved my life.
I was then taken to the base hospital that was already full of Viet Nam wounded. It was a good thing that I was as young as I was for other than my skull none of my bones broke they bent, but one of my lungs was crushed and I suffered extensive liver, and kidney damage. In their repeatedly having to open me to repair something I succumbed to infection. The same kind of infection as many of the wounded. Sometimes I flippantly think that I should be awarded a purple heart since I suffered like the soldiers in Viet Nam. :-}
While I was on the operating table I died twice, but I'm sure that God has something for me to do since once again He pulled me through.
Since all the doctors at Clark thought I was going to die and the Air Force didn't want the complications that would arise from a dependent dying in a foreign country they med-evaced me to Wilford Hall hospital at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas.
God gives everyone a defense mechanism that tends to forget ultra traumatic episodes, so I don't remember a lot about my ordeal at Wilford Hall and none of what happened to me at Clark. What I know is what I've been told. Basically my memory begins at age 12. I remember one day when I was in the back yard in Texas I saw what looked like a copper colored snake near to where I was sitting in the grass..
From Texas we moved to St. Louis so that my Dad could retire at Scott AFB right across the Mississippi river in Illinois. It was there that I had a nerve in my leg severed. Once again I had to be anesthetized, but again God pulled me through.
I resided in Florissant which is on the outskirts of St. Louis county which didn't have very good bus service so I was pretty much stranded and limited to talking to my friends via telephone. I had to attend a special school, Litzsinger, about 20 miles from home so all my friends were consequently in the same predicament and we rarely got together outside of school. I developed a real loathing for the special school district and the stigma that went along with it.
This was the reason I had an old friend from the Philippines come visit me. Little did I know that this was God's way of intensifying His plan to get me saved. Now that I look back I can see God's hand all through my life, but it was Shaunt's visit that would end with me being a new creature. (II Cor. 5:17)
About the middle of June 1970 we went to a Vacation Bible school at Grandview Baptist church, and right from the start I could tell that they had something I didn't. The VBS was 2 weeks and besides my salvation experience the only thing I remember about it was one evening a medical technologist talked to us about sex but of course she approached it from a Biblical stance. Everyone there treated me like just another one of the gang and not like an oddity. Couple that with the Holy Spirit's convicting and you might be able to imagine how I was feeling. I couldn't wait for VBS, but I couldn't figure out why. I had always been such a loner.
Then at the end of the VBS we had a commencement service where the pastor preached a sermon. I don't remember what he said other than that he asked all of us who want to be saved to raise our hands. I felt something trying to keep me from holding up my hand all I could manage to do was hold out my hand.There were about five of us who indicated the desire to be saved, so after the service we all went into a back room where the music leader lead me in a salvation prayer.
I graduated from high school in May 1976 and started college the following August. Finances dictated the necessity for me to transfer three times and due to the loss of some credits it took me 5 years to get a 4 year degree, but I did finally graduate from Hannibal LaGrange in May 1981 with an associate of arts and bachelor of religious education. I applied to New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary but for some reason they would never reveal they denied me acceptance. I did get the opportunity to do some mission work at Carver Baptist Center but had to quit.
I then got a secular job with the City of New Orleans at the police station for 5 years, but due to city fiscal problems I was transferred to the streets department where I worked for 1 1/2 more years. During that time I joined a little mission church where I got to preach 4 or 5 times, but due to my deteriorating physical condition I had to leave NOLa and move to Florida in Dec. 1988 to live with my parents.
At first we lived in Margate, Fl., but that was very short lived. From there we moved to Gainesville, Fl. where we lived for four months. We never could get used to such a small town or the preference shown to the university students We moved to Jacksonville, Fl. where we are quite happy and I think I'll probably be here 'till Jesus returns.

- Around 1992 I got involved in the Praise Line Loop which is an e-mail club in which we share inspirational material with one another. It is a God send for someone such as I who is pretty much shut-in otherwise not much. Mostly TV and movies; VHS,DVD.

Sex+teens=destroyed lives!!! MTV, owned by Viacom, has come out with a
wonderful new program called "Skins." This is a program featuring young
teens, as young as 15, and glorifies sex, drugs, alcohol, and utter
rebellion to common decency. I have been glad to see some of the
advertisers of the initial program pulling back, but the fact is, there will
be a line of new advertisers to take their place.

Abstaining from sex and waiting on God

First let me say that as I get older sex isn't the same force to me as it was when I was in my teens and twenties. It used to be that my thoughts were pretty centered around that one activity. The practice of astrology is from ancient Babylon and is pagan in nature. It basically depends of created things, stars and planets, to divine the future when we should be depending on the Creator to show us the Way to the future. Why would someone employ a practice from people who enslaved God's chosen people ?

sandra peprah said… - Antoine,around 1985 l made a declaration when l gave my life to christ.was married at the later part of 1885 and in 1986 l had my son who is now 24yrs. By 1990, my marriage hit the rocks and life changed completly to an unchurched life and back to my old life.
Now l know that when we change, God doesnt' but rather he waits patiently for us. In 1997 l was involved in a car accident in which the car surmasulted 8 time in the darkest night. Some how in the darkest night some body came over, pulled me out of the car to the hospital. He cliamed that he lived around the high way and was at the hopital to see me the nest day, however when l informed him that my relatives wished to see him, he never tend up again. God was there to save me from that deadly darkest night, Around 2001nov.21st, the devil tried to kill me again when l was involved a car accident in which the car was beyond repair, but God saved my life and till date people still dont believed that l survived that accident.l must say that the 2001 car clash saw a pastor pulled me out of the car when all passerbys that came to my rescue concluded that l was dead. This pastor consciously reconciled me to the Lord and till date l still have a great relationship with the lord. April 21st 2009 l had another seriouse car crash on a moutanous area and again God was there to rescue me from a near fatal dead and l stayed in the house runing up and down of the hospital and the physiotherapist for 7 months. The devil constanly tried to kill me, but in all God was present. l have had friends who have died from very minor accidents and my situation had been differnt and divine interventions has been my portion. My question has always been,, who am l that God has shown so much favour among other situations that are far beyond my imagination.. God bless you for helping me tell my story, l believe God has far reaching purpose for my life and am still waiting for him. l know one day he will make it known. Stay bless Antione
