I have personally lost 2 Uncles: my Uncle Steve and my Uncle Barry to suicide. I can say that I was incredibly close myself and struggled everyday with suicidal thoughts. Everyday I thought was a curse and only wanted the sweet relief that I thought death would bring. My arms are covered in old scars as a result of my former oppression, but the Lord is mighty and never gives up and I can honestly say I've been set free from all of my former oppression and depression.A few months ago, my brother…See More

About Me
Hi Everyone--My name is Melissa and I live in Parkersburg, WV--Although I was originally born and raised in the great corn state of Iowa:) I love my God above all, and love spending time with my family.
I am currently in school earning my degree in Education. I love children and believe in the importance of education. I am easy going, very talkative and silly at times. I love laughter, as well as deep conversations.
I love the simple things in life, and try to find the beauty in all things. I love my Lord and Maker with an incredible passion and put Him first, above all in my life.
I do not have very many Christian friends here in the state of West Virginia--and am looking for a Godly support team! But I trust that sometime soon the Lord will bring them my way!
States I've lived in: Iowa (19years), Minnesota (2 years), Pennsylvania (2 years), and now West Virginia (I've now been here 3 years).
My Testimony
Hmmmmm, so much I could say. I guess I'll start off my saying that my God is my provider, my healer, my deliverer, and my fortress. I can truly trust Him with every aspect of my life. I was raised in an Assembly of God church in Iowa until I was 18 years old. After many drastic and painful events I got wrapped up in the pain and hurtful ways of the world for many years. I battled deep depression, suicide, addiction and mental anguish.
But my God is so much bigger and greater than anything the enemy could try to bring my way. I really can tell you that the Lord has delivered me of all of those things--all of that former oppression I lived with for so long. He has given me joy and peace, long suffering, patience, and self-control.
I no longer battle any type of depression--as my Maker has truly set me free--My original diagnosis was 'Severe Recurrent Depression"--and it was something that I was just going to have to learn to deal with and take medication for--but praise be to the Lord that with Him that is not the case. My God has a greater purpose for me--and so now I just live one day at a time--never knowing what He may bring my way:)
I believe He has given me a gift in the avenue of dealing with those who battle deep depression and have suicidal tendencies, as He has put me, by divine appointment, in the paths of many I have known just at their ultimate breaking point ( Some as they were plotting others as the noose was around their neck).
All power and healing lives and exists through my King Jesus Christ--There truly is NOTHING too big or too bad that He cannot take care of! I do not know what is in store in my coming days ahead, but I can tell you that I am trusting Him completely with my all--He has been so faithful and amazing beyond my wildest imaginations. He has saved me and brought me through so many trials and tribulations--
So, whatever may come my way Lord--I KNOW you are in control--and I give YOU the glory in everything--Thank you Jesus for all you have done for me, set me free from, delivered me from, and used me as a vessel to do your work--and I continue to praise you and thank you for all that you are going to continue to do--In me and Through me as we continue on this journey called life Together!!!
Favorite Activities
God has blessed me with immense creativity--so I love to do activities in the area of the arts. My mother, step-father and I sell Christian crafts in malls and Country Sampler magazine. (We maintain a seasonal store and vary back and forth between Grand Central Mall in Vienna, WV and the Huntington mall in Huntington,WV) My mother and I both paint on the woodwork items that my step father cuts out from hand, and free-hand personalized signs with a paint brush for our customers.
Although the Lord has blessed me with artistic gifts in the area of painting and drawing--my love/passion exists in the area of theater. I love acting, drama, and the stage--I won many awards in high school for my acting abilities in very large competitions. I also used to travel in ministry teams doing kids camps, family camps, vacation bible schools and kids crusades) I also enjoy singing and having a good time in the company of good fellowship.--( I love to laugh and be an oddball--It's just who God created me to be!)
I love animals and I really love children.( As I am currently studying to be a teacher) I plan to eventually get my Masters in either counseling or special education.
I love to travel and I love new and exciting things. Someday, I hope to see the world, but I'll wait in eager expectation for what the Lord has for me.
I currently attend the Celebration Center in Belpre, Ohio -as I believe this is where the Lord would have me be right now.
I am currently single and have given up the concept of casual dating (Life without a boyfriend was formerly an all together foreign concept--Truly from age 4-25 always in a relationship) But now I know that the Lord has someone special just for me, as I believe, I too ,am someone special for them--and I choose to wait, with the Lord as the only man in my life, until my future mate arrives :) I'm not just looking for someone--I'm looking for God's one! I would much rather now choose to refine myself with the Lord in a time of preparation for "the one" instead of being involved with many "wrong ones" only clouding up my future with my soon coming husband. Besides life with just me and the Lord is not so bad at all--He truly supplies my every need--although an occasional hug from a family member is very appreciated at times in my waiting period!!!
Thank you Jesus that you know far better than I about my future--and thank you for your provision and saving me from past almost huge mistakes--I choose to wait on you Lord--my way no more!!!
Favorite Music / Movies / Tv Shows / Books
Music: I love anointed praise and worship. I love Hillsong, Kari Jobe, Jason Upton, Grace Williams and many many others--Jennifer Knapp does happen to be my favorite singer of all time though--Since I first heard her many years ago--although she hasn't come out with anything in quite some time.
Books: I love Beth Moore books--and would highly recommend 'Get Out of That Pit' and 'Breaking Free' to anyone. Another highly recommended book from my list is Don Dickerman's "When Pigs Move In" and I challenge anyone wanting to go deeper into the supernatural freeing power that awaits through our Lord to read it! I am currently reading T.D. Jakes' "The Lady, Her Lover, and Her Lord" as many people recommended it to me, but in reference to MY favorites--go with the 3 already mentioned;)
Television: I try not too watch too much television these days, as it can easily suck you in a rub off on you--But I occasionally watch wife swap and enjoy watching Sid Roth's Supernatural--I used to watch Intervention a lot as well as Law & Orders and reality shows--but theses days--I enjoy taking a nice walk, praying or reading instead!
Lord continue to change the desires of my heart!!!
I do love movies--and have seen so many and have many, many favorites ranging in many different categories--Although in this area, I now try to limit myself as well. There is far too much filth out there these days and I now choose not to fill my mind with the junk of Hollywood--Although a good, clean, heart-felt movie is always appreciated from time to time!
Favorite Quotations
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, It's about learning to dance in the rain!
What would you say is your Spiritual gift?
As mentioned earlier, I believe the Lord has given me a gift and ministry in dealing with those who battle extreme depression and suicidal thoughts--as the Lord has truly delivered me. He has used me in many areas of ministry in church in the area of drama (skits, plays, human videos, choreographed dance) and singing.
I am used in prayer and intercession for those the Lord places on my heart and for those who ask for prayer. He also has given me an immense gift in the area of leadership. I look forward to all that the Lord continues to do through me as I daily surrender to Him. After all, it's nothing that we do except surrender to Him. It's all about Him--about following His leading and being willing to be an open vessel for Him. Not by might and not by power, BUT by my spirit says the Lord!

Melissa, I believe you are an answer to my prayer... I read on your page that your family does woodwork.. I have two bibles that I have been wanting to get wooden boxes made and present them to my nephews..

We will have to discuss details..

Beautiful poem... you are very intimate with the Holy Spirit, a very valuable key.
