Christian Conduct?

One of the biggest downfalls to Christianity today is the fact that we tend to shoot the wounded instead of trying to help restore them. When someone falls we trample over them and tear them down.…Continue

They Need Our Presense, Not Presents!

Too often we get so wrapped up in getting our kids "stuff" that we lose focus on the more important things. When we really get down to it, they would much prefer our presence over the presents. The problem with presents is what it means we have to do to get them. It means we spent a few extra hours at work to obtain this gift and failed to be there for them when instead. When we really get down to it, our fondest memories aren't the temporary gifts we got growing up that eventually wore out,…See More

Degrees of Sin?

Is there such a thing as degrees of sin? We have a tendency to categorize sin, but is that really fair? I don't believe there are degrees of sin. i believe that while some are more evident and have a bigger impact on those around them, it doesn't necessarily mean they are of a higher degree. One should consider which type is really worse. What we would consider to be the smaller offences can be just as harmful if not worse. i recently heard that the biggest detroyer of houses is not the obvious…See More

No Regrets?

One of the biggest hurdles we must face when our kids are grown is the question of what we would change if we had a second chance to raise our kids. To say we made a few mistakes along the way would be a drastic understatement. We learn so much from the mistakes we make as our kids grow. Our kids also are who they are as a result of some of those decisions. We can’t dwell on what has happened in the past. We can only learn from it and apply what we’ve learned as we move forward.God knew we…See More

Rescuing

One of the hardest things for us to do is sit back and watch our kids make some of the same mistakes that we made. Our natural instinct is to jump in and save them from themselves or any other danger that may lie out there. Before we jump in and come to the rescue, we would be wise to evaluate the situation to see if perhaps there is some valuable lesson we could help them learn by letting them suffer the consequences. It is my belief that we should let our kids make the mistakes while they're…See More

Appearances!

Too often we get caught up in what or how things may appear to others, especially when it comes to our children. We get so caught up in making them toe the line that we forget they are kids who are still learning. I'm not saying we let them do whatever they want because they need to be taught boundaries and what it means to suffer the consequences of their actions. I'm just saying that I don't believe we should expect perfection from our kids just so we look good in front of everyone else. It's…See More

Addictions

Posted on December 14, 2011 at 3:48am 0 Comments

I have found that we tend to focus on addictions that we feel are dangerous. The problem I have with that is we tend to cloud the definition of dangerous. When we look at addictions, we tend to automatically go straight to drugs, alcohol, or tobacco. While these are addictions and have been documented as unhealthy and even life-threatening, we also need to consider other addictions that may be even worse because of their subtlety.

A few that come to mind are the internet, video games,…

Time is of the Essence!

Posted on October 3, 2011 at 12:23pm 1 Comment

We were all told when we were younger how time seems to go faster as we get older. I didn't believe them. I could only look at how slow things seemed to go. There were several milestones to reach growing up. School seemed like it would never end. I couldn't wait to graduate. Then came getting serious with my sweetheart and wanting time to hurry up so I could marry the girl of my dreams(which I found). Then came the kids. I couldn't wait to see…

Perplexed Parenting

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 10:09am 0 Comments

I have a community on here that I'm trying to grow called Perplexed Parenting. It is an extension of a ministry my wife and I started a few years ago after our son came out of drug addictions. It's purpose is to get parents who may be struggling with their children to interact with each other. The biggest ordeal we had when we were struggling with our son is that we felt we had nowhere to turn for support. If anyone is reading and wants to find out more, check us out.

Who's to Blame?

Posted on January 18, 2011 at 9:24am 1 Comment

One of the biggest obstacles for us to get over when our children mess up is blaming ourselves for their decisions. I’ve heard pastors relate stories in their messages about how to, or not to, raise your kids. They seem to place all the blame of children’s mistakes on how they were raised. I remember getting all the books on raising children, and while I know I didn’t do everything perfect, I know I did the best I could. While it is up to us to instill good values and principles, we can’t…

Thanks for the friendship. I enjoyed reading about your ministry. My husband and I both feel called to minister top hurting people someday. I know the Lord has prepared me to love, guide, and  pray for women in small groups. I pray that HE continues to sustain you, guide you, and bless you with the call you have on your life to serve HIM. It is a blessing to serve the Lord. You are rich !  CQ
