Why A Manger?

By Rev. Dean Beaty 11/30/11

Luke 2:7 “And she brought forth her firstborn son, and

wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a

manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.” (KJV)

Since God the Father had a plan

     Long before the world began.

When God’s Son came down to earth,

Why just a manger for His birth?

Why no room within the inn,

So His birth could be therein?

Why just hay within His bed,

There to lay His infant head?

Smells and flies filled the air

Though He alone was heaven’s heir.

Angels proclaimed this wondrous news

But only to shepherds - guarding ewes.

The Wise men’s gifts were for a king,

These to the palace they did bring.

Christ was not born near a throne.

And no pomp to Him was shown.

It takes no faith to trust a king

To meet the needs that we might bring.

But to see God - as a man,

That takes faith, as was God’s plan.

Trust in kings - leaves little doubt,

Their wealth and power can work things out. -

Though Christ was born where cattle feed.

He alone can meet our need.

Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please him:

for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he

is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (KJV)

Where do you find livestock, in a manger.

John 1:36 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!

Jesus came first as a lamb and will return as the Lion Of Judah.

Revelation 5:5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
