Where’s the Profit?
By Rev. Dean Beaty 11/26/11
Mark 8:36-37 “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain
the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man
give in exchange for his soul?” (KJV)
If a person gained the world and all the wealth therein,
His own eternal soul he’d lose, not cleansed from all its sin.
All the wealth that he had gained or fame here on the earth,
Would not count for anything without his soul’s new birth.
Even if the wealth he gained was used for charity,
But failed to value the shed blood Christ gave on Calvary.
When life ends and judgment comes, we know where he will be.
His soul, whose value none can count, is lost eternally.
So what are you pursuing in the time you have down here,
All the things you can acquire or a soul that’s free and clear?
The soul that God has given us is what Christ came to save.
That’s the only thing we have that lasts beyond the grave.
All the world that we can gain, when put upon God’s scale,
One drop of blood that Jesus shed would cause our wealth to fail.
When you estimate the wealth of creation as a whole,
It’s great value completely pales, when compared to just one soul.
