No Greater Gift

John 15:12-13 “This is my commandment, that ye love one

another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than

this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (KJV)

There’s a very well known song that we hear at Christmas time.

It is sung by young and old and it has a clever rhyme.

But for a song at Christmas, Christ is never mentioned once.

To me the clever author only proved he was a dunce.

Now with every year that passes someone calculates the cost

Of the partridge in a tree but the greatest gift is lost.

For there is no greater gift than the one God gave to man.

For God gave His only Son long before the world began.

This was not an afterthought that man’s fall had brought about.

But long before creation our great God had worked it out.

There was no hesitation when our Lord came down to earth,

To be laid in a manger, though a King, such humble birth.

Men can figure out the cost of a partridge in a tree.

But what’s the total value of Christ’s blood on Calvary?

There could be no greater gift and by grace this gift is free.

It not only cleanses sin but gives life eternally.
