First and Foremost
By Rev. Dean Beaty 12/2/11
Exodus 20:1-3 “And God spake all these words, saying, I am the
LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt,
out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”
(KJV)
“No other gods before Me,” was the first law that God gave.
To put God first and foremost we must be His willing slave.
Not a slave where stripes and kicks or cruelty is shown.
But where our heart’s devotion belongs to God alone.
“No other gods before Me,” means He’s first in everything.
Our motives, goals and pursuits even melodies we sing.
There’s obviously a reason why God put this one first.
We cannot keep the other nine if in this we’re not well versed.
“No other gods before Me,” may this be our daily prayer.
Before our feet e’er touch the floor or we breathe the morning air.
Start the day with God put first. Let this our life display.
End it with both thanks and praise for God’s blessings of the day.
Beware of the little things that affect the other nine.
They seem insignificant but “little foxes spoil the vine.”
When we meet God in glory may Christ and God agree.
“You lived well and showed there was, no other god but Me.”
