God’s Garden and Grace

By Rev. Dean Beaty 1/30/12

Genesis 2:7-8 “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the

ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man

became a living soul. And the LORD God planted a garden east

ward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.” (KJV)

God created Adam first and from Adam, Eve was made.

God placed them in a garden, His law to be obeyed.

From the tree of Good and Evil, God said, “Thou shalt not eat.”

“The day you do you’ll surely die.” One law both short and sweet.

The evil serpent tempted Eve, “Thou shalt not surely die.”

Because the fruit looked so good she thought she’d have a try.

She gave the fruit to Adam and then he took a bite.

That is when they realized they were naked in God’s sight.

God drove them from the garden.  It was on that very day.

Then began the process that every man would pass away.

With animal skins God clothed them to cover up their shame.

God promised a redeemer and Jesus was His name.

In time Eve bore two sons and named them Cain and Abel.

This is how man started.  It’s true and not a fable.

The sin of Eve and Adam was passed on to each son.

But God would send His own dear Son and He the victory won.

By grace God’s Son can cleanse our heart, free to one and all.

If we’ll confess we’re sinners and on Christ’s name we call.

By faith in Jesus Christ all our sins are washed away.

And by God’s grace and mercy, we’ll live with Him some day.

Joshua vs Jericho

By Rev. Dean Beaty 3/15/12

Joshua 6:5 “And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast

with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the

people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall

down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.” (KJV)

“Joshua fit the battle of Jericho, Jericho.”

But that was just the first of many more to go.

God gave the victory in a very strange way.

“March around the city. On the last trip, trumpets play.”

He was to trust in God alone for the victory

And not to be afraid or fear the enemy.

Joshua trusted God and by Him he was led.

God told them just what to do and here is what He said.

“One time around each day for six days in a row.

And on the seventh day, seven times then you must go.

On the seventh time around blow the trumpets with a shout.

The walls will all fall flat, just trust and do not doubt.”

When the trumpets sounded and they began to shout,

All the walls fell flat and they were not kept out.

They defeated Jericho because they obeyed God.

The next time Israel fought, their victory was flawed. *

God had told the people, “The spoils you must not hoard,

For they are concentrated to the treasury of the Lord.

Not one coin or vessel for a curse on them I’ve laid.”

The people knew the rules but not all of them obeyed.

There are consequences when we choose to disobey.

It’s not enough to claim that our feet are made of clay.

Or try to blame another for the wrong that we have done.

Obey both God and parents and the vict’ry will be won.

Grumbling Leads to Stumbling

By Rev. Dean Beaty 3/6/12

Numbers 21:5 “And the people spake against God, and against Moses,

Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness?

for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth

this light bread.” (KJV)

Moses had his hands full with the stubborn Israelites.

Perhaps a better name for them would have been the grumblites.

They grumbled about water, they grumbled about their food.

No matter how good God was, grumbling was their mood.

God had given them water that came out from a rock.

God also gave them quail to eat to stop their grumbling squawk.

And if that was not help enough God gave to them His law.

But one time when they grumbled, it was the final straw.

Though God has great longsuffering, His patience can be tried.

God sent them fiery serpents and many people died.

Our grumbling is a sin whether at parents or to God.

Give thanks therefore for everything and your life will be less flawed. *

God told Moses, “Make a pole, a brass serpent put up there.”

And when they look on it then I will hear their prayer.

When the grumblers asked for mercy, God was faithful to forgive.

With simple child-like faith they were to look and live.

Forgiveness of our sins is just that simple too.

Just take God at His word and He will forgive you.

Our God’s a God of mercy if we will trust in Him.

The heart that trusts in Jesus, that soul God won’t condemn.

* I Thessalonians 5:18 “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will

of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (KJV)

Abraham and the Ram

By Rev Dean Beaty 1/28/12

Hebrews 11:19-19 “By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and

he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, Of whom it

was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called: Accounting that God was able to

raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.” (KJV)

God told Abraham that he would have a son.

But it was many years before the deed was done.

When Isaac was a lad, God made a strange request

To test the faith of Abraham, to see whom Abe loved best.

There’s no doubt he loved his son, born so late in life.

God said, “Make of him a sacrifice and don’t forget the knife.”

Arriving at Mt. Mariah, these two went on alone.

Isaac asked, “Where is the lamb?” Abe said. “God will make it known.”*

When the altar was prepared Abe laid young Isaac there.

There was the fire and wood and his knife raised in the air.

Just then God spoke from heaven, “Do the lad no harm.”

They then went down the mountain; no doubt both arm in arm.

For over in a thicket a ram was tightly snared.

God gave to them a sacrifice and Isaac’s life was spared.

The lesson from this story showed the faith of Abraham,

When he had told his son, “God will prepare Himself a Lamb.”**

*Genesis 22:7-8 “…Isaac said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is

the lamb for a burnt offering? And Abraham said, My son, God will provide

himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.”(KJV)

**Galatians 4:4-5 “But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent

forth HIS Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that

were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.” (KJV)

Tent Trouble

By Rev. Dean Beaty 2/17/12

Genesis 13:12 “Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled

in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom.” (KJV)

Which way is your tent is facing? It seems so trivial.

This was an indicator that someday Lot would fall.

Which way you pitch your tent can speak a thousand words,

Especially if towards Sodom you graze your flocks and herds.

Between Lot and Abraham there soon arose some strife.

And so Lot found a reason to move his tent and wife.

Abraham wasn’t greedy and allowed young Lot to choose.

Lot’s choice showed his ambition and that led Lot to lose.

Lot pitched his tent towards Sodom, a very wicked place.

Soon he lived within its walls, it’s culture to embrace.

God’s patience is longsuffering in hopes we’ll hear His call.

But there will come a day when God’s great wrath will fall.

God sent Lot two messengers to get his family out.

When Lot tried to warn them his words just had no clout.

“You speak now of God’s wrath. Of God you have not spoken.”

So they just laughed at him and soon his home was broken.

Lot’s wife and two young daughters were all he could persuade.

Soon Lot would lose them too; that was the price he paid.

From Lot we learn a lot about our heart’s intent.

It matters to your family which way you pitch your tent.

I John 2:15-17 “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.

If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is

in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life,

is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the

lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” (KJV)

Babbling at Babel

By Rev. Dean Beaty 3/3/12

Genesis 11:1&4 “And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.” (KJV)

One day men got together and said, “Let’s build a tower.

It will reach to heaven and then we’ll have great power.”

When God saw their intent He had a simple plan.

“I will change their language so man can’t speak to man.”

A babbling brook is one thing, but babbling men another.

When God confused their language one couldn’t help his brother.

When one said, “Pull the rope.” His friend heard, “You’re a dope.”

To finish up the tower, for sure there was no hope.

So they scattered far and wide with those they understood.

And thus they filled the earth as God had said they should.

When God gives us instructions, they’re meant to be obeyed.

Sometimes we need persuasion, that time a hearing aid.

So when you set a goal that is not in God’s plan,

You may avoid the fire but choose a frying pan.

God has many methods to turn our steps around.

Once He used a donkey that spoke with words profound.

With Balaam and his donkey, God made the two commune.

But that’s another story, which we will get to soon.

Remember God’s in charge and He has ALL the might,

And we can trust in this; God always does what’s right.

Genesis 18:25 “That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?”  (KJV)

Noah and New Math (1+1=3)

By Rev. Dean Beaty 1/31/12

Hebrews 11:7 “By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet,

moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.” (KJV)

Methuselah was the oldest man - and he was Noah’s grandpa.

The people living on the earth - did not obey God’s law.

Mankind was very sinful - by the deeds that they had done.

To preserve the human race - God destroyed everyone.

So God told Noah to build an Ark - and said how deep and wide.

“Bring two of every animal - to keep them safe inside.”

“One male and one female - to repopulate the earth.”

Except for Noah’s family - God found in man no worth.

God said that He would send a flood - to destroy all things with breath.

Just eight souls God kept alive - all else would meet their death.

For forty days and forty nights - God sent great torrents down.

And everything that breathes the air - eventually would drown.

When dry ground appeared again – they worshiped God on high,

God promised not to flood the earth - and put a rainbow in the sky.

The Lord will judge all men one day - the living and the dead.

The child of God will be kept safe - by the blood that Jesus shed.

Cain Just Was Not Able

By Rev. Dean Beaty 3/6/12

Genesis 4:3&8 “And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought

of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD….And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field,

that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.” (KJV)

When Cain came to worship God, Cain just was not able.

He brought works of his labor like fruit from off his table.

For the cleansing sacrifice of sin God always requires blood.

But there’s no blood in turnips or even a rosebud.

No fruit or grain will ever do if blood is not applied.

When God saw Cain’s fruit offering, He could not let it slide.

No doubt this angered Mr. Cain for sin was at his door.

He thought that killing Abel would even up the score.

A wrong can never be made right with another wrong applied.

When God asked Cain of Abel, sin was increased when he lied.

Even sins that may seem so small will still our life pollute.

Sin has a way of growing strong if not yanked out by the root.

Our works brought for salvation will only be a loss.

Only blood will cleanse our heart; the blood shed on the cross.

Without blood there’s no redemption, no matter how we try. *

If you think it’s otherwise, you’re believing Satan’s lie.

*Hebrews 9:21-22 “Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry. And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.” (KJV)
