Good children's literature appeals not only to
the child in the adult, but to the adult in the child.
~ Anonymous ~

Books are the legacies that a great genius leaves to
mankind, which are delivered down from generation to
generation as presents to the posterity of those who are yet unborn,
~ Joseph Addison ~

Read not to contradict and confute; nor to believe and take for granted;
nor to find talk and discourse; but to weigh and consider.
Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed,
and some few to be chewed and digested:
that is, some books are to be read only in parts,
others to be read, but not curiously, and some few
to be read wholly, and with diligence and attention.
~ Francis Bacon ~

When we read a story, we inhabit it.
The covers of the book are like a roof and four walls.
What is to happen next will take place within the four walls of the story.
And this is possible because the story's voice makes everything its own.
~ John Berger ~

To read without reflecting is like eating without digesting.
~ Edmund Burke ~

You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture.
Just get people to stop reading them.
~ Ray Bradbury ~

Books are standing counselors and preachers, always at hand,
and always disinterested; having this advantage over oral instructors,
that they are ready to repeat their lesson as often as we please.
~ Oswald Chambers ~

A book is like a garden carried in the pocket.
~ Chinese proverb ~

Readers may be divided into four classes:
1.) Sponges, who absorb all that they read and return it in
nearly the same state, only a little dirtied.
2.) Sand-glasses, who retain nothing and are content to get
through a book for the sake of getting through the time.
3.) Strain-bags, who retain merely the dregs of what they read.
4.) Mogul diamonds, equally rare and valuable, who profit by
what they read, and enable others to profit by it also.
~ Samuel Taylor Coleridge ~

A truly great book should be read in youth,
again in maturity and once more in old age,
as a fine building should be seen by morning light,
at noon and by moonlight.
~ Robertson Davies ~

The world of books is the most remarkable creation of man:
nothing else that he builds ever lasts monuments fall; nations perish;
civilization grow old and die out; new races build others.
But in the world of books are volumes that have seen
this happen again and again and yet live on.
Still young, still as fresh as the day they were written,
still telling men's hearts, of the hearts of men centuries dead.
~ Clarence Day ~

There is more treasure in books than
in all the pirate's loot on Treasure Island.
~ Walt Disney ~

Reading is....a window into the imagination of the infinite possibilities today and forever. A great read becomes a journey and adventure of the written word that connects with a readers heart, mind and spirit; an experience that they might otherwise never have. Unlike any other pursuit or medium, a great book can also provide the reader with thoughtful knowledge, insight, perspective, intimacy, fact, opinion, discernment, objectivity, including every emotion and reaction possible. It's one of those personal and intimate pursuits in life that can last the test of time.

Discover an unexpected treasure.

Last year April on a Sunday we took one of our "nowhere" drives. My husband was quietly driving a back road. I was occupied in the front passenger seat watching the scenery.

I noticed out of the corner of my eye that my husband was straining to look out my window. This startled me, since his eyes should have been on the road in front of him. I asked him what he was looking at out the windows, and he quietly replied, "Nothing." His eyes went back to the road in front of him.

After a few minutes, I looked over at my husband and noticed a tear. I asked him what was wrong. This time he told me, "I was just thinking about Pop and a story he had once told me"

Of course I wanted to know the story, so I asked him to share it with me. He said, "When I was about 8 years old, Pop and I were out fishing and that's when he told me that the Pine trees know when it is Easter.."

He continued on... "The Pine trees start their new growth in the weeks before Easter -- if you look at the tops of the Pine trees two weeks before, you will see the yellow shoots. As the days get closer to Easter Sunday, the tallest shoot will branch off and form a cross. By the time Easter Sunday comes around, you will see that most of the Pine trees will have small yellow crosses on all of the tallest shoots."

I turned to look out the window and I couldn't believe my eyes. It was a week before Easter, and you could see all of the trees with the tall yellow shoots stretching to Heaven. The tallest ones shone in the sunlight like rows of tiny golden crosses.

MAY GOD BLESS YOU AS YOU WATCH FOR THE CROSS AND MAY IT SERVE AS A REMINDER THAT IT WAS UPON A CROSS THAT JESUS DIED FOR YOUR SINS AND MINE. MAY GOD TRULY BLESS YOU THIS EASTER SEASON.

My Never Agian List

Never Agian will I confess "I can't," for "I can do all things through Christ which strengthenth me' (Phillippians 4:13).

Never Agian will I confess lack, for "My God shall all of my need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:19).

Never Agian will I confess fear, for "God hath not given me the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and a sound mind" (2 Timothy 1:17).

Never Agian will I confess doubt and lack of faith, for God hath given to every man the measure of faith" (Romans 12:3).

Never Agian will I confess weakness, for "The Lord is the strenghth of my life" (Psalm 27:1) and "The people that know their God shall be strong and do exploits" (Daniel 11:32).

Never Agian will I confess supremacy of satan over my life, for Greater is he that is within me than he that is in the world" (1 John 4:4).

Never Agian will I confess defeat, for "God always causeth me to triumph in Christ Jesus" (2 Corinthians 2:14).

Never Agian will I confess lack of wisdom, for "Christ Jesus is made unto me wisdom from God" (1 Corinthians 1:30).

Never Agian will I confess sickness, for "With His Stripes I am Healed" (Isaiah 53:5), and Jesus "Himself took my infirmities and bare my sickness" (Matthew 8:17).

Never Agian will I confess worries and frustrations, for I am "Casting all my cares upon Him who careth for me' (1 Peter 5:7). In Christ I am "care-free!"

Never Agian will I confess bondage, for "Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty" (2 Corinthians 3:17). My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit!

Never Agian will I confess condemnation, for "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus" (Romans 8:1). I am in Christ; there, I am free from condemnation.
