Genesis 6:4

"The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown."

You brought up "giants" earlier, which is the English transliteration of the Greek word "gigantes" which is the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew word "nephilim" which is the root you mentioned - "nephal."

That Hebrew root means "fallen ones." The Greek word, "gigantes" is often translated "giants" which is accurate because Scripture indicates that these people (Og of Bashan whose bed was 13feet long - Deuteronomy 3; Goliath who was nearly 10 feet tall - 1 Samuel 17; the "giants" of "nephilim" that terrified the 10 spies - Numbers 13) were giants. But in other ancient literature, this Greek word is used to describe the TItans - a race of half-breeds who were the offspring of the "gods" and humans. Isn't it interesting that when we look outside of our "theological" comfort zones, we can discover that the Greek word used to describe the "Nephilim" is the same word used to describe this "half-breed" race?

Read Genesis 6:4 again:

"The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown."

Doesn't this meet the same description as the Titans?

Jesus' own words in Matthew 24 make it clear that a great deception is coming - one that could even deceive the "very elect" if it were possible. Along with that deception is a great falling away where brother will betray brother and mother will betray child.

What could cause such a deception? Jesus told us what to prepare for:

"For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah." Matthew 24:37

In the days of Noah, Scripture tells us that there was a race of half-breeds who were the offspring of the "Sons of God," a phrase used throughout Scripture and extra-Biblical ancient literature to describe angelic beings, and humans.

Noah was "blameless" in his "generations", according to Genesis 6:9.

Blameless - תָּמִים tamiym
1) complete, whole, entire, sound
a) complete, whole, entire
b) whole, sound, healthful
c) complete, entire (of time)
d) sound, wholesome, unimpaired, innocent, having integrity
e) what is complete or entirely in accord with truth and fact (neuter adj/subst

Generations -דּוֹר dowr
1) period, generation, habitation, dwelling
a) period, age, generation (period of time)
b) generation (those living during a period)
c) generation (characterised by quality, condition, class of men)
d) dwelling-place, habitation

This is the reason he and his family were spared.

Have you ever wondered why God commanded Israel to kill the men, women and children of certain tribes of Canaanites? Could it be that these Canaanites that God commanded be destroyed - whom the 10 spies declared were "Nephilim" - were those whom Genesis 6:4 declares were on earth "afterwards?"
had to look up Shaquille on the web but yes could be a relative - also lets not forget the skull is a lot closer to the camera than the chap in the background. another thought; only the dead should be interested in the dead.
Who's getting offended? I brought up historical, Biblical, and linguistic evidence, and rather than considering it, you default to a "this debate is useless" response.

I bring up this topic for one reason:

The vast majority of Western Christianity subscribes to a "Pre-Tribulation" rapture theory. What would happen if they were wrong, and on top of that, demonic forces manifested themselves as "aliens" who were arriving with all of the answers. Western Christianity has no lens to view this through. Many of the weak-minded, Biblically illiterate Christians of today will not be able to process that, and are LIKELY to become deceived and fall away.

Huh...sounds like what Jesus said will happen...

Sorry I wasted your time.
Again, I'm not offended. I'm simply trying to stretch you and your thinking. Earlier, you mentioned that the "nephilim" were wiped out by the flood. That is not Biblically accurate. They existed in Canaan after the flood, just as Genesis 6:4 states.

You can criticize a point based upon facts and evidence, or you can say its a "waste of time" and we should focus on things "all about Jesus." If Scripture includes it, I can't assume it is a waste of time. Jesus warnings make it clear that we are to understand the times. That is why I discuss it.

You can consider these things if you like, or you can ignore them. There isn't anything to forgive, since I'm not offended.
Just to add to the fun...

"I get nervous when everyone agrees. That's usually a sign that something is wrong."
Romans 15, 5: Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus
Those who are members of Christ's Body enjoy being in unity. Of one mind - the mind of Christ. We don't mind lively debate but being deliberately contentious and divisive is not conducive to harmony. The fact that you have met with such staunch rejection - from so many of us should tell you something.
Ever heard about the one guy marching in the troop who was out of step? He was not the only one who was right!

The Holy Spirit is our companion who gently nudges us in the right direction and keeps our feet from getting stuck in some miry pit.
I haven't been deliberately contentious or divisive. I'm just encouraging everyone to consider alternative points of view.

Unity is desired, but not blind acceptance of what religion has taught us.

So are you saying that I should just accept what the majority of the impotent, overly religious, money driven, institutional church says, just so that we can have "unity?"

I'm sorry, but I refuse to surrender to what Christianity has become today. It's not what God intended. If that means that I don't "tow the line," than so be it.

Are you aware that there are over 40,000 Christian denominations in the world today?

Whose opinion should I take as fact: yours?

I don't want that type of unity. Sorry.
