For those of you who do not know our situation. Hunter Watkins is our grandson, of Kimberly Beaty Watkins
He just turned nine years old Jan.14. He was diagnose with Batten's disease at about 1 and was not given more than 4 yrs. to live. At about 9 mo. I noticed he was not progressing in his development . Mostly motor skills.
From that point on he digressed until there wasn't much left to call life as we know it. This morning his kidneys shut down and he went to be with the Lord.

A Homage to Hunter 1/14/03 – 1/4/12
By Rev. Dean Beaty – grandfather 1/27/12
II Samuel 12 22-23 "And he (king David) said, While the child was yet alive,
I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether GOD will be gracious to me, that the child may live? But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me. (KJV)

My grandson was nine years old but never went to school.
Cause like millions of others, we obeyed the rule.
The doctors and the government said it would be okay.
So just like little Lemmings we wanted to obey.

And now for nine whole years he's been nothing but a shell.
Nothing but God's grace could make my grandson well.
He never walked nor ever talked, nor ate food on his own.
While doctors shrugged their shoulders and said it was unknown.

Oh, they made their diagnosis and gave the cause a name.
But just so they and others would never share the blame.
So to keep from getting mumps, the measles or rubella,
They pumped poison in the veins of a perfect little fellow.

From that day his progress stopped and slowly he decayed.
All because the government we willingly obeyed.
Soon he got a feeding tube because he could not swallow.
Everything that showed of life was gone and left him hollow.

How I wish that he had caught the measles or rubella.
Then he would have grown up strong, a happy little fellow.
For nine long years he suffers as we watch his slow decay.
But now he sits on Jesus knee, for today he passed away.

II Corinthians 5:8 "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent
from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
I Thessalonians 4:13-14 "But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which
have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them
also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him." (KJV)
This is my whole hearted beliefs about this very sad 9 year tragedy

Oh my friends. I'm sooooo sorry for your loss. Of course I will be lifting you up.

I share your grief at the death of your grandson Hunter, but I also want to comfort you and your loved ones with a message of hope.

No disease, whether it be Batten's Disease, cancer, or something else, should ever define us. There is the natural temptation when we discover we have a terminal illness, to make our life all about the disease – to become inwardly focused, to hunker down. But that is not the gift of life we receive from the God who loves us. No disease defines us. We are defined as beloved children of God. We are defined by the love we share with family and friends. We are defined by our compassion and mercy for others.

Death is not the end for us.  Your grandson Hunter will be resurrected to eternal life with God.  He is beloved of God.  God will do to him what he did to Jesus.  Our loving and life-giving God will raise him up to eternal life.  God will raise us from our deaths.  I believe that with all my heart.

--  "A faith and knowledge resting on the hope of eternal life,
which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time"
(Titus 1.2 | NIV).

--  "So that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according
to the hope of eternal life" (Titus 3.7 | ESV).

--  "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life"
(John 3.16 | NASB).

Thank you all for your kindness and prayers.

The Funeral

The main speaker is preparing for the ministry and lost their daughter to Battan's disease also.  I thank the Lord he gave God's Word in comfort and most of all salvation.  I felt God was honored in it and God gave His peace.
Jim and Kimberly seem to be doing well even though the day of Hunter's passing I used their wash machine and it quit working.  I was sick as they just had the repair man out, but because of that they only had to pay for the work done and not coming out too so I am thankful. Kim was very gracious about it.
Kim at various times said she could feel the prayers and it was amazing how the morning Hunter died and the morning before the funeral God woke me up to pray and that was when Kim (they) needed prayer the most.  We have such a great and wonderful GOD.
