Liberty, not Legalism
Devotional thought from the messages of Adrian Rogers
BIBLE MEDITATION:
Ephesians 3:20 - “Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us”
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
To be found in Jesus, Paul says, is worth more than all of his religion, race, and ritual. It is a relationship with the Almighty God. It is Jesus. Paul says, “I’m tired of trying. I’m going to start trusting.” Basically, Paul lived a life of working his way to heaven before he met the Lord on the road to Damascus (see Acts 9). Legalism is a terrible thing. It is a harsh task master under which no one can succeed. Liberty, not legalism, is what the Lord Jesus Christ offers — freedom, not bondage; relationship, not religion. We give up nothing for which Jesus will not abundantly offer more than we could ever hope or dream.
ACTION POINT:
Read Colossians 3:11. What does it mean for Christ to be your “all in all”?
Yes Barry that is right. When we use grace as a spring board for sin we can easily find ourselves back in a place of bondage.
When we are in bondage we need repent and not only this but turn from the sin. The grace brings the favor of God to set us free from the law of sin and death....and as you said we must walk in the truth there we can have continuous victory in Jesus. The victory is there already but walking in it is our choice:)
Love the Lord your God with all your heart mind and soul, and Love your neighbor as yourself. Christ said that these were the two commandments on which the WHOLE law hangs. Not one of us can do it. There is only one that was able because that one is perfect. Only Christ was able to do the law. The best we can do is imitate Him.
Some might be able to imitate better than others, but in the end we are all just imitations dependent on the real deal.
