Lesson in Forgiveness- It's Not About Me : )

So I've heard about how forgiveness is impossible without God. I've heard that we can't force our natural selves to forgive without the supernatural power of God. I get it. But recently I heard a teaching from my pastor that links self-righteousness to unforgiveness.

It was one of those God-reaching-right-into-the-depths-of-my-heart moments. I'm still depending on myself for my righteousness rather than the Jesus who died for me. Not such a brilliant idea if you ask me.

That makes it impossible for me to forgive other people because I'm not trusting the monumental work that Jesus did on the cross. And I don't trust God to take care of me.

That makes it impossible for me to forgive myself because I'm keeping myself at a distance from Jesus who has the power to change me. The distance I feel at those times isn't created by Him!

That's all I have to say about that : ).

I'm taking note of this, mentally. I need to write a letter of forgivenes to two people. It has been weighing on my heart convicting me. It's lead to a burden.

Can we really forgive ourselves? I have often really wondered about that the whole forgiving ourselves.

I actually asked the question the other week Greg if it was a sin not to forgive ourselves? Is it a sin to doubt our forgiveness already given. I got some pretty cool answers from Joy in the Lord.
