Thanks, Trish, you bring up many of my positions about the law. It's not that the law was for their time so much as for their culture. But the New Testament clearly explains that we are no longer bound by the law. but we are free to live according to the purpose that the Holy Spirit directs us into. And if that means eating pork BBQ while wearing a T-shirt and drinking a glass of wine before getting a new tattoo, then I'll obey the Spirit...
thanks to alll. you have been a great help. thanks, god bless.:)
I recently watched a show called tattoo hunter, the roots of tattoos go back a long time that is why the bible talks about it...the act of getting tattoos is an act of worship to other god's that is why it is an abomination to God...Now Romans 12:1-2 talks about worship and we are to glorify god with our bodies, I found recently it is just best sometimes If it don't have to do with God or it could possibly go against God do nothing...what you have to realize tattoos are of this world it is just a desire of the flesh or carnal to want to adorn ones self with pretty pictures...don't be deceived by satan and allow him to lead you into deception saying "It's a christian tattoo" it is your desire to have a tattoo not God's he made you perfect the way you are. That is pleasing to God because he made you, your body is a temple.
Hey whats up, My name is paul i am from NYC. As a youth i have the question, and did some bible research and hopyfully this verse(Leviticus 19:28,) will help you. Thanks God bless you.
Wow! The legalism surrounding this topic is so thick I couldn't even cut it with a battle axe!

OK, whichever of you who are quoting the laws are obedient to ALL of the Law?
Once again, show me your sideburns and beards...
Have you not read the book of Romans? Do you not realize that by living according to the law you are subjecting yourselves to the whole law and not accepting the grace that save us? Haven't you heard that our obedience is to the Holy Spirit and not to the letter of the Law?

As for tattoos being a form of worship to other gods. Fine. But is God incapable of acknowledging our markings as a form of worship to Him? God doesn't change, and yet He showed Peter a vision of all kinds of animals and told Peter it was OK to eat all of them now - even though they weren't kosher. Seems like something changed between the time of the law and the advent of the new covenant. If God can allow us to eat animals that aren't kosher, then why isn't it possible for God to accept our tattoos?
Likewise, in case we've forgotten, Christmas was a pagan holiday that the church merely assimilated into it's traditions. But there is no scriptural basis for us to celebrate it, especially not in December. Does God reject our worship of Christ during this holiday season just because it was originally worship of other gods?
And how can anyone judge whether or not the desires for the markings we have were placed in our hearts by the Holy Spirit? Wouldn't that just be assuming that the desires are our own selfish vainity? And can anyone make that judgement without knowing those of us with tattoos - and in my case, brandings??

Just some things to think about...
speaking girl to girl, you just need need to go along with your own convictions. its ultimately your own decision. I myself, am perfectly okay with tattoos and piercings. I plan on getting a tattoo on my wrist soon, and well, it has certain meanings to me. And, yes, there are bible verses people can quote, but its all about how YOU interpret it.
as long as its not your boyfriend's name.....!
haha i would never do that. crazyy.
Look I got a tattoo almost ten years ago.. and let me put it like this. I like it and it is something I do not regret, and it is pleasant to look. My point is this do not get something that is a eye soar, get something you would like. And really think about what you really want, plus think about job interviews, put it somewhere you can see.
Everyone will always have their different opinion on Tattoos..What is the difference between a Scar and a Tattoo. A scar is an indication of damage. Made by any injury or from a surgery. A tattoo -the practice of making a design on the skin by pricking and staining. The only difference is those with the scars don't really like to show them off. Even if that scar saved their life.. People will see someone with a scar, and right away they just stare at it and don't like what they see. But with a tattoo, is the other way around. People are like Wow! They are amaze at the art, and what it represents. Many people talk the talk, but only a few walk the walk for what they truly are. You don't need no Tattoo to represent anything. We are children of God. He made us in his image, who are we to change our image. Our body is The Temple of God. One thing is for sure Jesus didn't have any Tattoos on his body. He did have plenty of scars at the end of his life hear on earth. And for those scars we are saved. For a True Christian, your decision should be that hard...God Bless you..
1. I personally think that God would be displeased for us to cause physical pain to our selves.

2. Ask yourself will this tatoo be in heaven with you.

3. Even though leviticus was in the O.T. and we don't live under God's rule of life for the Levites every law had a general principal behind it.

4. the bible says to "avoid all appearances of evil."

5. also the bible says that even though something isn't sin if your conscience bears witness against you, and you do it even if it wasn't sin the fact that you violated your conscience is sin in God' eyes. 1Cor.10:25-33 The spiritual principle
