I don't understand this peice of Scripture. Please help.

Luke 12:49-53~~Not Peace but Division
49"I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! 50But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is completed! 51Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. 52From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. 53They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law."

I have tried to understand this, adn have prayed about it, but I can't seem to grasp what He is saying. I read what it says, but I can't get it. Please explain it to me. Thank you.

Hi Tara,

what these verses mean is Christ showing the cost we will pay for discipleship or other words following after Him as the world will be against us even our families if they do not have a personal relationship with Christ. Just as the world hated Jesus so will be the same for those who pick up their cross and follow after Jesus. Hold fast to your convictions of truth no matter what tries to come against you.
When you know truth through the Spirit of God it is your responsibility to take
Gods word out into the world with the Holy Spirit guiding you. Remember what
Jesus said in John 15:18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated
you. Never worry about what man can do to you for the words sake, just be
concerned you are doing the works for the Lord and not yourself so you can bring
glory and honor unto His name.
